Spaying and neutering help reduce the pet overpopulation problem as well as reduce health risks. Each year millions of dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters around the country due to a lack of homes.
Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries (and usually the uterus as well). Spaying before the first heat virtually eliminates the risk of mammary cancer, cancers of the reproductive tract, and emergency life-threatening uterine infections (Pyometra) in cats and dogs.
Neutering is the surgical removal of the testicles. Neutering decreases marking and territorial behaviors, wandering, prostate problems, and eliminates of risk of testicular tumors.
We encourage early-age surgery due to quicker recovery time of a young pet - usually around 5 months of age.
We suggest you talk with your full service vet to determine the best timing for YOUR pet's spay or neuter!
Kittens must be at least 2 months of age and over 2 pounds.
Yes! We require the tattoo as part of our spay/neuter services. The spay/neuter indicator tattoo is a small linear blue tattoo in or near the incision site. This indicator tattoo is used to show that the pet has been spayed or neutered. It is a key tool in preventing unnecessary surgeries should your pet ever end up in a rescue or shelter situation.
We recommend your pet have a physical exam and bloodwork done prior to surgery. We offer pre-anesthetic bloodwork for all patients. We require bloodwork on all patients 7 years and older. Bloodwork will be run the morning of surgery.
